Nature in Novato Events

3/3: Deer Island Bird Walk SOLD OUT

Join guest leader David Herlocker and Jack from Wild Birds Unlimited for a walk around this Novato preserve. This walk is fully booked; existing sign-ups can see the event details here

One easy way to help birds: window decals to prevent collisions.

3/14: Bird Conservation at the Backyard Level

Jack from Nature in Novato will be Marin Audubon’s guest speaker this month, presenting on ways we can safeguard and foster bird populations around our homes and neighborhoods. This talk at the Richardson Bay Audubon Center in Tiburon will take place at 7:30 PM on Thursday, March 14 and is free and open to the public, with no advance registration required.

For more program details and location information, see the event page here.

3/17: Indian Tree Bird Walk  SOLD OUT

Join us for a small group walk at Indian Tree Open Space Preserve. This underappreciated preserve is lightly traveled and offers Novato’s only real redwood and Douglas-fir forest as well as a diverse broadleaf woodland. During this transition period from winter to spring, we expect to see winter forest birds like varied thrushes, while spring birdsong will already be ramping up with a vibrant chorus of purple finches, orange-crowned warblers, and more anticipated. This field trip is particularly good for practicing identification by ear – sometimes these small forest birds are hard to see!

This walk is now fully booked, but existing sign-ups can view the details on the event page here.

3/24: Birdsong Seminar at Wild Birds Unlimited

In this in-store seminar, we’ll introduce you to the most common songs and other vocalizations heard from our backyard birds. We’ll teach you why birds sing, which birds sing, and when they sing. Most importantly, we’ll give you the tools and techniques to both remember these bird sounds and learn others in the future.

For full details and to reserve your spot, visit the event page here.
