SUMMARY:Deer Island Bird Walk
DESCRIPTION:Join Jack for this walk at Novato’s Deer Island Open Space Preserve. This wooded hill rising above seasonal wetlands offers a wide variety of spring songbirds. We’ll look and listen for ash-throated flycatchers\, purple finches\, nuthatches\, wrens\, and a variety of woodpeckers. Meanwhile\, the surrounding open areas attract raptors and our various summer swallow species. To learn more about the birds and habitats we’ll encounter\, see our profile of Deer Island. \nReserve your space by selecting your number of participants and clicking on “Confirm RSVP” below; this walk is limited to a small group so that everyone can see and hear each other on the narrow trail. We’ll meet at Deer Island (see below for directions) at 9:30 AM on Saturday\, April 28 and wrap up around 11:30 AM. This walk involves a gentle\, level stroll of 1.8 miles around the “island.” Note that there are no restrooms or other facilities at this preserve. \nWild Birds Unlimited bird walks are intended for persons in reasonably good health and physical condition. Participants must be capable of walking over uneven terrain and be adequately prepared for the prevailing outdoor conditions. By registering for this walk\, I acknowledge that participation entails known and unanticipated risks\, including personal injury to myself and others and property damage. Notwithstanding these risks\, I wish to assume them by voluntarily participating in these activities. I hereby release Wild Birds Unlimited and its officers\, employees\, and affiliates from any and all liability for any injury or loss arising out of my participation in these activities.
